ONE HEALTH VS COP27 : SOLVING CLIMATE CHANGE DILEMMAS AS ONE HEALTH DILEMMAS
It is time we begin to acknowledge the fact that whatever affects humans will affect animals and the environment, whatever affects the hydrosphere will definately affect the lithosphere and atmosphere. Some of us cringe at the on-going climate change but we fail to acknowledge the fact that it's a product of all our collective actions across decades. As a one health advocate, I am optimistic the physical and virtual attendees of COP27 and One Health Congress while discussing climate change and focusing on environmental health, will acknowledge that it is impossible to ignore animal health and human health in proffering solutions to our current crisis. There were "talks", there are "talks" and there will be more "talks" in every health- climate change space if we do not solve our problems with a collaborative lens. It is important to note that when we transform education, we transform advocacy, policies and implementation strategies. In an infodemic era, not only health workers but citizens need to have the right information at their finger tips. World citizens, not community leaders are the key stakeholders because we represent different homes which form our communities.
One health, Planetary health,Global health, Public health among others are accepting the fact that no team and no gender can do it alone. This is the time all willing hands from all races in the global south and north should be welcomed on deck in all rooms decisions are being made with equal representation of both gender.
An uninformed race is a deformed race, it all begins with an individual. An individual dumping non-biodegradable objects inappropriately, an individual using excessive chemicals on the environment... and so on. One individual watched by individuals, who are the now and future decision makers of one health pillars.
You can only prevent what you know on the continuum of health to disease. My father is an advocate of "EACH ONE TEACH ONE", which I modified to "EACH ONE HELP ONE" in health, education, finance and disaster management. WHEN YOU HELP ONE, WE HELP ALL. SO IN SOLVING ONE HEALTH DILEMMA, HOW HAVE YOU HELPED OR PLAN TO HELP YOUR NEIGHBOUR OR A STRANGER LATELY?
